General Check Up

From monitoring weight to early detection of suspicious tumours, there have been multiple situations where a regular general checkup has saved lives.

Preventative health care is vital in taking charge of your well-being. An annual general checkup will help you become more informed about the condition of your body, any irregularities or risk factors you may have, and how to work towards preventing health issues.

Generally, your doctor visits will increase with age, but that doesn't mean that young, generally healthy people are exempt from getting checkups. There are still conditions that do not discriminate, and scheduling your annual checkups will make it that much easier to prevent them.

A general checkup will usually include the following:

  • an evaluation of your eyes, ears, nose, throat and mouth;
  • using a stethoscope to examine the heart and lungs;
  • checking the abdomen and bowels;
  • checking for unusual lumps in the abdomen and feeling the lymph nodes in the neck, underarms, or groin;
  • getting your height and weight measurements;
  • checking your blood pressure;
  • lab tests such as a complete blood count (CBC), a blood test to check cholesterol and glucose levels, and urinalysis to monitor kidney and urinary tract health

In some cases, Dr Gaffoor may perform advanced screening or an in-depth diagnostic test—X-rays, computer tomography (CT) scans, electrocardiogram (ECG) or heart activity, cardio stress tests, and the like—depending on the person's medical history and specific needs.
